Different Essays – Different Approaches

Types of essay organization differ to a much lesser degree than the types of essays themselves. No matter what kind of essay you write, most of them follow more or less the same structure: introduction with concise recounting of the contents of the following essay, several supporting ideas in order to make the point and the conclusion in which the contents of the text are summed up.

However, some types of academic essays use their own characteristic structures, so always make sure that you understand what is expected of you before you start writing the essay of a type you haven’t encountered before. Before starting a new kind of assignment it is a good idea to find more about the types of essay and their example in order to have at your disposal a distinct picture of what the result of your work is supposed to be. As it is said, you may learn any amount of theory and still be ignorant, but one example will give you an immediate understanding of your task.

Among other types of essay organization one can mention the way a narrative essay is constructed. For obvious reasons it cannot be built along the lines of a typical five paragraph essay – it describes the succession of events. However, it is still supposed to have introduction and conclusion, though they deal more with the classical functions of narration than with introducing the idea or summing it up.

All in all, the best way to approach writing of any kind is to have a very distinct picture of what various types of academic essays consist of, how they are supposed to be written and so on. Never rely on your intuition – always do your research before setting about to work and you will never fail.
